<여울>은 시간의 흐름 속에서 타인의 감각과 스치듯 접속하고, 이해에 이르거나 실패한 뒤 다시 자기 몸으로 돌아오는 장면을 하나의 풍경으로 엮어 보려는 시도에서 출발한다. 직선적으로 이어지는 서사보다는 접속과 이탈이 반복되며 느슨하게 배열되는 별자리 같은 상태를 상정하며 사운드스케이프를 구성했다.
뮤지션 오지호는 메인 기타 리프의 리듬이 베이스 음에 의해 미묘하게 시작점을 달리하도록 설계하며, 동일한 흐름처럼 보이는 시간과 감각이 매번 다른 지점에서 발생할 수 있음을 실험한다. 타악의 소리는 지면 위에서의 흩어짐을, 기타 이펙트로 만들어진 음향은 그 위의 공간과 별자리를 가늠하며 퍼져 나가는 상태를 연상시키는 요소로 배치되었다.
또한 그는 기타의 몸통 소리와 다양한 음색을 적극적으로 사용하며 악기를 여러 부분으로 나누어 더듬는 방식을 택했다. 윗면과 뒷면, 측면, 줄과 넥, 헤드와 브릿지에서 발생하는 각기 다른 소리는 몸을 이해하는 과정처럼 단속적인 감각의 탐색에 가깝다. 이 사운드 작업은 전시 안에서 감각의 접속과 어긋남이 일어날 수 있는 또 하나의 층위로서 제시된다.
Riffle begins with an attempt to weave into a single landscape those moments when one briefly comes into contact with another person’s sensations within the flow of time—reaching understanding or failing to do so, and then returning again to one’s own body. Rather than following a linear narrative, the soundscape is composed around the idea of a loose constellation of connections, where moments of contact and departure repeat and remain lightly arranged.
Musician Jiho Oh designed the rhythm of the main guitar riff so that its starting point subtly shifts in relation to the bass tone, experimenting with how time and sensation—though appearing to follow the same flow—can arise from slightly different points each time. The sounds of percussion suggest a scattering across the ground, while tones created through guitar effects evoke the space above it, spreading outward as if tracing the formation of a constellation.
He also actively employs the resonant body of the guitar and a range of tonal variations, exploring the instrument through its different parts. The distinct sounds produced from the top, back, and sides of the guitar, as well as from the strings and neck, the head and the bridge, resemble a discontinuous exploration of sensation—much like the process of coming to understand a body.
Within the exhibition, this sound work is presented as another layer where sensations may connect or fall out of sync.
